The research details people movement from overseas to greater Melbourne between 2006 and 2011. This includes the most common source countries by place of birth, and the most popular destination areas within greater Melbourne for such people movement. India was found to be greater Melbourne's largest source of new overseas migrants between 2006 and 2011, with six other Asian nations among the top ten sources. Melbourne City and Monash were the most common settlement areas for greater Melbourne's new overseas migrants.
The report also shows the large number of skilled overseas migrants who have relocated to greater Melbourne - particularly from India, China, and Australian-born workers returning from abroad.
GCRP's research into people movement trends in greater Melbourne is part of a collaborative project with the Commonwealth Department of Immigration and Border Protection.
